1. Cross

Solve the four bottom edges to form a cross. Plan it entirely during inspection and execute in 8 moves or fewer. Everything else builds on a good cross.

2. F2L — First Two Layers

Pair each corner with its matching edge and insert the four pairs into their slots. 41 standard cases. F2L takes up most of your solve time — the stage where lookahead and efficiency pay off the most.

3. OLL — Orient Last Layer

Orient every last-layer piece so the top face becomes a single color. 57 cases, one algorithm each.

4. PLL — Permute Last Layer

Permute the last-layer pieces into their solved positions. 21 cases, one algorithm each.

How to learn

Suggested order: Cross → F2L (intuitive first, full algorithms later) → PLL → OLL. You don’t need all 119 algorithms to start — a 4-look last layer (2-look OLL + 2-look PLL) gets you most of the way there.
